Our adventure into the world of video-game-themed-food continues with a Disgaea 3 themed breakfast. I don’t know why, but NIS games just remind me of food… Maybe because they are so life sustaining, I am not sure.
As I mention in the video, I got the idea from Mao’s conflict over how to eat a dragon’s egg which is required for opening his heart. For some reason he really loathes soy sauce on eggs and instead prefers hot sauce. Sadly our local grocers does not sell dragon’s eggs, but here are the ingredients we used per single breakfast made:
- 1 egg
- 1 slice of bread
- 1 slice of cheese of your choice (we used American, go America!)
- 1 slice of a fresh pepper, any color (we used orange, go O.C!)
- hot sauce, soy sauce, or any condiment you enjoy
I was really surprised that our bizarre concoction was actually quite tasty and easy to make, even for the most unskilled chef. We were able to somehow cook it on a makeshift hot plate while kneeling in front of Foxes’s Macbook.
I am not really sure of the significance of the pepper, I just thought it was a cool addition and a neat way to shape the egg. If nothing else it is a good way to add vegetables to your breakfast. Originally I wanted to use red, or green which are colors that remind me more of a dragon, but they were all too small so we went with orange.
Anyway I hope you guys give it a try and enjoy it.
And finally, E3. You heard right (which you probably know already if you follow me on Twitter), Kotowari is planning on going to E3 this year. It’s not looking cheap though, since I am about as far from LA as you can be in the continental US. Sadly, I had to tap into the move-to-California-fund, which pained me greatly. Anyway, Foxes created a donations page if anyone wants to help the cause.

Dear Jesus you guys don’t have a stove?
I’m going to try this recipe since it sounds pretty healthy, and I desperately need to change my diet. And is the whole Kotowari crew going to E3? How will buy of besting get by without their star employee? And I will definitely donate some money to your broke asses, but next week! I bought a mint copy of Earthbound for the SNES today and that set me back 350 dollars.
I have a beautiful kitchen Jink, but we felt that it was more efficient to cook on a hot plate in my basement due to the lack of electronic equipment in said kitchen. Also, why in god’s name would you spend that much on earthbound?
Yea we aren’t THAT poor to not have a real stove. It just worked out better for filming with the hot plate. Maybe this breakfast will help you with your potential omega-heart-disease-cancer! Me and Foxes already purchased plane tickets, hotel reservations etc. Just waiting for the E3 people to approve our tickets. NG5 is a maybe, it depends on if he can save enough monies.
Oh wow, this is eggy in a basket, only a more glorified basket. I’m not a big fan of peppers, so I’ll need to figure out a suitable substitute. And that’s cool your going to E3, I’ll definitely buy some stuff through the affiliate links to try and help.
@Jink: Man, you just reminded me that my mom threw away all the cool stuff that came with Earthbound.
Love how the egg kinda inhabits the pepper slice. Got hungry watching it. Where did you find this recipe?
We made it up, completely original although as Kabling mentioned it is based off eggs in a basket.
Ah great as always! You two should start your own game related cooking show. You can pitch it to the food network when you get out here to LA! Speaking of that, where have you and Foxes decided to stay? Near the convention centre I’m assuming, she wanted to meetup (possibly in lil Tokyo) when you were here.
That would be cool, but I dunno if we can keep it up for a whole season. Besides I could totally see them being like “Make something Halo themed!” And I refuse to sell out
We have made arrangement to stay at the Miyako hotel from June 1-5th:
http://www.miyakoinn.com/
Which I understand is right in Little Tokyo! We were going to stay at another one in LT called Kawada Hotel, but it had some bad reviews online so we upgraded. I am sooo excited, I guess there are lots of place to get Japanese food all around the hotel!
BTW, I think it’s cute that you spelled center British-style, I do that with words sometimes too… Foxes always makes fun of me
We should all definitely meet up, we will probably need a tour guide since we are gullible country folk and will probably end up getting swindled by hobos.
Lol yeah like pankcakes in the shape of master-chief
Oh the Miyako yeah I’ve been there, it’s really mint. Yep you’re right, there are alot of great places to eat including one of my favourite udon shops in the area and a shabu-shabu place!
Lol um thanks I more so spelt it in the ‘British-style’ cos I am British. I only recently moved out to California three years ago. My mum’s American though.
Lol I would be more than happy to play tour guide! Don’t worry I won’t let you get shanked or swindled or forced to put on an impromptu strip-tease (wait what?) once you’ve lived in Mumbai, LA doesn’t seem all that fast-paced. Maybe we can even head to the beach or something lol. I’m sure you’ll have a great time! Lot’s to do!
