Konami announced recently several games they would be releasing for the iPod Touch/iPhone. Among the 4 titles is none other than the previously teased about Metal Gear title, now revealed to be Metal Gear Solid Touch.
![]() |
I had previously suspected that the teaser was concerning a Metal Gear title for the Xbox 360. Many people also assumed that the title would be a continuation of the Ac!d series due to the use of the “!” in the bizarre teaser equation.
It turns out the only element in the equation that mattered was the “i” for iPod, since the rest of the elements seem to have no purpose at all. I guess I gave Konami too much credit. |
The game takes place in the same world as Metal Gear Solid 4, but Konami said that there would be original content. I am not sure if this means it will be ALL original, or partially original. The touch panel will be used mainly for aiming and zooming in on targets (pictured top right). The game will include 8 stages, and more can be acquired while playing. Other goodies players can earn are wallpapers for their iPod and exclusive videos.
Among the other titles being released are Silent Hill: The Escape, Dance Dance Revolution S Lite, and Frogger. I don’t know what is more exciting, iPod sneaking action, or iPod avoid-moving-vehicles-and-jump-on-logs action.

Konami: A Next Metal Gear Is…

Konami posted a teaser site today that displays this simple image with the words, “A Next Metal Gear Is…” Hideo Kojima, the head honcho behind the most recent Metal Gear series, has mentioned nothing concerning this on his MGS development blog.
While the image and its formula may seem cryptic, the solution symbol does slightly resemble the power light of the Xbox 360:
Anyway, I am really excited to see that Konami is already working on a new MGS title. I eagerly await something more substantial to wrap my mind around.

You heard right, Konamistyle has just revealed 3 new t-shirts to accentuate the excitement of the upcoming Meme Expansion for Metal Gear Online. The shirts are available for pre-order at Konamistyle for 3,465 yen (around $34).

I think the C-Box shirt is my favorite. According to Konamistyle’s website, it is selling more than the other 2. I love how Old Snake is peeking out of the back of the shirt… genius! You gotta love the engrish too.
The Animal shirt is definitely my second favorite. I love how the designers used the various animal badges the player can earn in MGS4. Also the use of colors is great.
If these shirts don’t impress you with their design, you should check out the awesome launch site for them here.
A while back Konami also designed a set of 4 pantless, uber-adorablized figures from MGS4. The set is dubbed Metal Gear Sold 4 x Figumate Sweet Snake:

The set includes the following characters:

Raiden is definitely the coolest of the 4, and for some reason I am attracted to Ocelot… I think he may look a little too much like a girl. If you are interested in purchasing the set, it’s available for $28.79 here at KidNemo. The estimated date of availability is the end of January 2009.
As for the shirts, once they are released on the 27th of this month, I am sure we’ll see them flooding eBay. And thankfully, they are available in sizes S-XL!

Fluency in Japanese certainly is not necessary to appreciate the goings-on at this year’s Tokyo Game Show. Thanks to the internet, neither is actually being in Japan at any point in your life. Dengeki’s website has several videos highlighting different video game publishers and their booths at TGS.
The videos are for the most part devoid of language, simply focusing on the scenery and the games themselves. Here are some links to the videos, enjoy!

Did you notice a lot of women dressed in elaborate outfits? They are called Companion, or Companion-san, and each booth has their own. In some cases, a particular game may even have exclusive companion-san often clad in cosplay.
Companion-san walk around their relative booth providing hand-outs and answering questions about games. They are quite knowledgeable, and (most of the time) their outfits are pretty awesome. Famitsu made a compilation of all the different outfits, which you can check out here (part 1) and here (part 2). Also, Dengeki has one other video featuring the elaborate outfits as well. You can check that out here.
And now, Kotowari’s awards for best, and worst Companion outfit at TGS 2008!

Good show Capcom, you even have me a little excited for the next Monster Hunter. I would also like to give honorable mention to Microsoft as much as it pains me. They had not one, but two really cool outfits.
Really Square Enix? All that talent and that’s the best you could do? Was Tetsuya Nomura taking a nap or something? Next year get him to design some belts and zippers!

I’m really not too crazy about the MGS4 shirt, but sadly I wasn’t able to get a Uniqlo one. I assume most of us are in the same boat. Why are these things only ever available in large? [Insert typical fat-gamer joke]
I think I may start scouring the internet for a download of the Knights in the Nightmare OST. If anyone finds it before me let me know! Man I cannot wait for this game…
