I don’t know how I missed this one! Doublejump Books now has their guide for Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 4 available for pre-order on their website for $19.99.  The guide will ship on 12/02/08, although I got my Disgaea 3 guide before its scheduled ship date, so who knows.  I really loved their Persona 3 guide; it was characteristically in-depth and helped me maximize my year very well.  This guide is said to include:

  • Complete walkthrough with Monthly Planners to help budget your time
  • See all the endings
  • Find out what’s of worth on the home shopping network
  • Uncover all secrets
  • Complete every quest
  • Complete data on Social Links
  • Uncover every character’s secret Persona
  • Full list of all items, skills, personas and enemies
  • plus much more!
  • As an added bonus, those who pre-order will receive a free priority shipping coupon code.  The code, p4pre, is good for $6.30 off of shipping.

I have already spoken at length about the superiority of Doublejump Books’ guides.  But what I like best about them, is I can purchase them BEFORE the respective game is released, granting some nice study time.  With this code, there is no difference between buying the guide online, or in-store, so buy it!

Also I noticed that now ALL Disgaea 3 guides purchased from Doublejump Books.com get a signature from djpubba.  Here I thought I was special.

Atlus and Amazon.com have teamed up to bring this special bonus pack to us hardcore Persona 4 fans.  The package, dubbed “Social Link Expansion Pack” includes the following:

    • Persona 4 OST (Featuring Music not available on the OST bundled with the game)
    • 8 1/2 Inch “Teddie” plush
    • XL T-Shirt featuring Yukiko’s Persona, Konohana Sakuya.
    • A 2009 calendar featuring art from the game
    • Price: $29.99

The package is a nice addition to Persona 4 when pre-ordered, providing enough bonus merchandise to keep one entertained until Persona 5 comes along.  Those who wish to purchase both can do so at a price of $66.98 with a savings of a cool $3.00.  Just scroll down on this page to the Frequently Bought Together section.  Both items ship on Persona 4’s December 9th release date.

I’ll admit, the package is pretty cool, but when I saw that Kuma has been named “Teddie” for the North American version, my heart sank.  Kuma is Japanese for bear, but it seems Atlus didn’t think that Americans could handle that highly complex connection.

Instead they decided, since Kuma apparently resembles a teddie bear, he should be named “Teddie”.  I wonder why, Koromaru wasn’t named ”Rover” and Aegis wasn’t named “Mrs. Roboto”.

Also, one last gripe, why are these bonus T-Shirts always XL!  Fatlus is a myth I swear!

Some new possessions to burn your hard-earned money on are being released at the end of this month.  Here they are in all of their glory:

    • Metis 1/7 PVC Figure
    • $74.90
    • Orchid Seed makes some damn decent figures, but they do charge accordingly.  Metis first appeared in the highly anticipated Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 3 FES.  This was the last figure made for the series.  If you are interested in purchasing it, get it before it’s gone.
    • Metal Gear Solid 4 T-Shirt
    • $49.90
    • The official Metal Gear Solid 4 T-Shirts are nowhere near as cool as the ones designed by Uniqlo.  For some reason they are also much more expensive…  At least they are more readily available to those of us in the West.  Oh yea, it’s also available in white.  Unfortunately, only size L is in stock for both colors.
    • Knights in the Nightmare Perfect Audio Collection
    • $29.90
    • Sting’s Dept. Heaven series is great at creating cohesion between art, music and story.  The newest volume in the series is a bit darker, yet hopeful.  The music seems to reflect that sentiment.  To get a better feeling for it, you can listen to the BGM here.

I’m really not too crazy about the MGS4 shirt, but sadly I wasn’t able to get a Uniqlo one.  I assume most of us are in the same boat.  Why are these things only ever available in large?  [Insert typical fat-gamer joke]

I think I may start scouring the internet for a download of the Knights in the Nightmare OST.  If anyone finds it before me let me know!  Man I cannot wait for this game…

I wish Atlus wasn’t releasing two games I want to play within a month of each other!  I don’t even think I will be done with Disgaea 3 by the November release of Eternal Poison…  So many games to play, so little time.

Still, it’s nice to see some decent (and free) pre-order incentives.

On August 22nd Atlus held a special concert featuring live music from the most recent Shin Megami Tensei: Persona titles: Persona 3, Persona 3 FES, and Persona Trinity Soul. The event was held in Akasaka, Tokyo at a special concert hall called BLITZ.

Japanese concerts are very different from American concerts.  (Unless you go to a lot of N’Sync concerts or something…)  As you can see, it’s quite a production–dancers, effects, a huge fucking screen, the works.

The theme of the concert was that everyone who attended was a “Main Character”, and that they were actually entering the Velvet Room.  The screen up top featured witty dialog between Igor, Elizabeth, and Margret.

As always, there was loads of awesome merchandise that you’ll probably never ever own.  Sorry.

Tickets to the event were 4,500 yen, around $40 USD. Not bad considering it looks like a lot of fun.  You can check out more photos of it here.   Below is the complete setlist.  I left the songs in their original Japanese…  hope that doesn’t piss anyone off.  If you are not familiar with the songs, you can find links to download them at the Related Entires section of this post.

On a side note, this is my 200th post since starting this blog! I think it has changed a lot since it’s humble beginings as a way to burn spare time while attending school in Osaka, Japan.  I think the changes are for the better though.  I hope you guys feel the same way!
