Catherine: “You’re Still Just a Lamb”
OK, so most of the info that can be gathered about Catherine is out on the web. Fortunately for you I am really quite obsessive about plucking any info I can out concerning Atlus titles and that’s what I aim to do regardless of how insignificant it may be.
The scans are online now (see above). They are hard as hell to read but I found a few Japanese sites that re-wrote some important points mentioned in the scans.
There was some confusion via Andriansang about the protagonist Vincent looking like a vegetarian. The actual term (as I suspected) used in the scans is soshokukei danshi, a cultural term for someone between a metrosexual and a hipster in Japan. That is the best I can describe it but read this for more on soshokukei danshi.
Sheep which stand on 2 legs approach Vincent in his dreams and a mysterious voice informs him that he is still just a lamb, suggesting he will become one of the sheep as well. This seems even more likely because in his dreams, Vincent has a sheep’s horn.
Vincent is a lamb?
The reasoning for this is anyone’s guess. Could it have to do with counting sheep? Could it be that Vincent is a lost lamb after his sin of cheating on his girlfriend with Catherine? Do you play part of the game as a lamb? One can only hope.
The world of Persona 3, 4 and Catherine are all the same. I realize this may have already been clear from the previously mentioned Persona 3 Portable crossover, but it’s worth noting that it is confirmed. Can more crossovers be expected in the game? A possible hint to Persona 5? Atlus sure threw a curve-ball with Vincent in P3P so I wouldn’t be surprised.
In the real world of the game, there are a number of young men dying mysteriously. An urban legend emerges which states that if you have a dream where you are falling but do not open your eyes before you hit the ground you die in real life. This is the explanation on the streets as to the mysterious deaths. Do Vincent’s dreams have some connection?
The connection with reality?
I would say at this point I am bordering on burn-out when it comes to talking about this game! Still, I am really liking the darker, more adult storyline. According to the interview with the Persona crew, the game is currently 80% done so hopefully a trailer is on the horizon.
