Today Square Enix updated their official Final Fantasy XIII website with a brand spankin’ new trailer.
I wasn’t able to find the trailer anywhere but on the site. To view it click here, and then go to “TRAILERS” and select your desired size.
The video features some never-before-seen cut-scenes as well as some scenes from a bunch of battles. I think this is the best look we have had yet of the game’s battle system, and I can say without a doubt that I am quite excited.
In Final Fantasy XIII, you do not simply walk up to an enemy and slash it with a sword so it recoils slightly – only to repeat the process. You bitchslap it into the air, throw a grenade at it and then hit it as many times as you can before it touches the ground. It appears that this is done by assigning a chain 1-3 of skills together into a combo–a truly awesome system.
Most of the combatants in the trailer were Lightning, Snow, and Sazh but my quick eyes detected one scene where there are two yet unknown individuals. According to the menu selection screen, one is named Gadoo and the other Reburo. One is a small female while the other is a buff looking red-headed guy. They both appear to wield guns. It seems like they come to Snow’s aid during the raid on Cocoon:
I am guessing by the fact that their HP is listed as “???” that they are not controllable, or they are only temporary characters. No one get too attached.
In addition to the video, some info has been given on the newest ally, Sazh Katzroy. That is the confirmed way to spell his name in English, so I am changing a previous post where I just romanized it. Here is his character bio:

- Sazh Katsuroy
- He loves chocobos and wields his dual handguns cheerfully. He is also very talkative and likes to joke around. He has a reason for wanting to join Lightning in an attempt to bring down Cocoons government, but it is not currently known. Here is hoping that it’s chocobo related.

Believe me when I say you need to watch this trailer. I think I may be the most excited about Final Fantasy XIII as I have ever been. Now I just need to sit back and wait… a long, long, time.
