Final Fantasy XIII: The Long Trailer
*UPDATED WITH ENGLISH SUBS*
As Tokyo Game Show draws to a rather anticlimactic end, Square Enix was nice enough to throw us a bone in the form of a 7 minute trailer for Final Fantasy XIII.
Story wise this trailer seems to focus a little more on Snow rather than Lightning, especially when it comes to his relationship with Serah. As you may have guessed, due to their feelings for one another, Final Fantasy XIII has been dubbed “emo” by /v/ and other manifestations of the internet’s dark side. I don’t really mind this aspect of the story, but most Final Fantasy’s kinda build up to it rather than just start with a relationship. This may provide some unique story telling opportunities.
I noticed some of the new summons were highlighted in the video. You may recall summons in Final Fantasy XIII are all vehicle hybrids which combine with their respective characters in battle. Until now we had only really gotten a look at the Shiva sisters, which are Snow’s summon. We got a first look at Lightning’s summon, Odin, in “ride” mode. He transforms into a robotic horse that Lightning rides while wielding a set of shimmering blades–I approve. Sahz may be teamed up with Ifrit who turns into a car… Yeah, I don’t think I like this rendition of Ifrit at all… Feels a little Nascar-y.
