The other day when walking around Kobe I stumbled upon Otaku capital of the world. Amidst the blatant and not-so-blatant child pornography I managed to find a store that sold some individual Disgaea Palm Scenery figurines. Unfortunately they did not have the Kunoichi or Yukimaru figures, but much to my nerdy delight they had the thief from Disgaea 2. I pretty much hated the thief in the first Disgaea due to a wretched attempt at voice acting, so I never really used one.
In Disgaea 2, I loved my thief, and she ended up being one of my highest level characters, and helped me get the various ultimate weapons. I know the thief isn’t a new jobclass, but I figured with Disgaea 3 around the corner, it would be a good idea to explain why it is good to integrate one into your party as soon as you can.
Job class: Thief (盗賊)
Evility: The Thieves technique (盗人の技)
Evility Effect: The success rate of stealing for a thief is twice as high as any other jobclass
Prerequisite: Creatable from the start
Suggested weapons: Gun, Bow and arrow
Move: 6
Jump: 25
Counter: 1
Throw: 4

I translated all of this info from a Japanese Disgaea wiki, which is very informative. It is important to note that there will be maps in Disgaea 3 where enemies or treasure chests are out of reach, and materials must be moved around the map and stacked in order to climb up to them. For more info check this out.
The thief will be incredibly helpful in the event that a dungeon is randomly generated with no stackable materials. The rest of his abilities are also indispensable in the item world, especially Lucky Fingers, which will help a lot when trying to get legendary weapons. Since the thief is creatable from the start, I highly recommend creating one and using his long range to pick off any characters that manage to survive the attacks of your melee fighters. This is a great way to level up a thief in the early stages of the game, since they are not strong enough for one-on-ones with most other characters.
Last of course, is the thief’s ability to steal, which is basically twice as high as any other character. While this may not sound like a huge advantage, if you saw the complex formula for calculating the steal percentage you would understand, but it would require me to explain a bunch of variables and ultimately not be very interesting. If you really wanna know the in’s and out’s check out a FAQ on stealing in Disgaea 2 here. Check back for more info as I am always on the lookout for news on Disgaea 3.
