Metal Gear Solid Air Jackets From Power Supply

No war, no Nuke

As E3 draws closer, it becomes more apparent to me that my antique Nokia phone will not be sufficient when it comes to getting information to my loyal readers as quickly as possible.  I have started looking into upgrading to an iPhone, which means I need to start thinking about something of great importance: protection.

There are a number of lame-ass iPhone jackets, but I would rather have no iPhone at all then make it wear dumb clothes, am I right?  Anyway, as I mentioned a while back Konami and Hideo Kojima produced a line of air jackets for the iPhone and iTouch in collaboration with Power Support.  I figured it would be a while before I saw these beauties stateside – luckily I was wrong.

The U.S. website for Power Support has started carrying the first series of the MGS air jackets.  There are 13 total available and each one will run you $49.99 which is pretty close to the Japanese retail price of 4500 yen.  Nice to see they aren’t gouging when they totally could.

You can find the iPhone jackets here and the ones for iTouch here.  Below are a few of my favorites with direct links to the iPhone version:

gekko corrugated Meryl and DE

I am totally getting the corrugated one pictured at the top.  If you plan on buying one of the air jackets, make note of the installation instructions at the bottom of each page.  It is likely that the directions included with the packaging will be in Japanese so you may not be able to rely on them.  Sorry about my recent Metal Gear obsession, I think it will subside soon enough.  I will keep keep you guys posted on my iPhone progress, and if anyone has any advice on the matter please let me know!

I really like the one that you have picked out. As a 3G iPhone owner I would recommend also getting a screen protector from Zagg. Especially if you have a mall kiosk where they will install them for you. My friend and I messed up 3 cheap one from Best Buy just trying to get the bubbles out. Just a word of advice.

I wonder if these will fit over the old iPod with video, I don’t care too much for an iPhone, but I sure as hell would like one of these. And you can never have enough Metal Gear.

Also, Did you get your Advent Children Complete yet? I got mine.

Argh, no! Still haven’t gotten it… Are you enjoying the demo? Did you watch it in 1080-million-p? Is the packaging amazing? :o

I watched the movie, it had the English dub on it (even for the new scenes), but no English subs. The new scenes helped the movie make more sense, by filling in the odd little detail here and there. And all the new details they added was nice, they also reused some of the cut-scenes from Crisis Core and added new ending song. Ind yes I did watch it in 1080p.

I played the demo for about 20 minutes before I fell asleep (this was at like 2am, so I was tired and the demo wasn’t boring) but the battle system was quick and simple to figure out, despite my lack of Japanese skills. It reminded me a lot of 12′s system, where you pick the commands and wait, but at a much faster pace. I’ll play more when I get the chance.

The packaging was the most disappointing part. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still nice, it has lovely outer plastic jacket/box that holds the two cases, and the cases themselves are blu-ray-case shaped jeweled cases. Inside are inserts for the movie and the game that also double as the cases’ cover, there is no back cover to the cases. I hate jeweled cases with a passion, but that the only reason why I didn’t like it.

Ah I look forward to watching it with the new scenes, although I would much rather watch is subbed than dubbed. Oh well.
What you told me about the demo is about what I imagined… Fast paced action and all that, fairly easy to figure out.
That sucks about the jeweled cases, seems a bit cheap to hold a blu ray disc. That like putting a wedding ring in a cigarette box.
