Fallout 3 Graphic Tees at Ebten

Fallout 3 Graphic Tees

It’s rare that my two loves of video games and graphic tees combine, but when they do I get pretty excited.  I don’t think I can ever have enough whacky t-shirts.  Anyway, Ebten is a Japanese clothing and accessory company that is featured on Famitsu from time to time.  Recently they have received attention for their “Game Tshirt Project” which features t-shirts from a variety of games. The most relevant among them to us in the West, is the aforementioned Fallout 3 tees.

CHILDREN OF ATOM There are 3 shirts for the Fallout 3 line, each with two different colors available.  The prices range from 4,500 yen to 3,500 yen, which should run you about $50-40 USD.  I have never seen any Ebten goods on any sites that ship outside Japan so you will probably be forced to use Celga or other similar services if you insist on purchasing any of the shirts.  I am a big fan of all three designs, but the price is a bit steep for my blood at the moment.

Other shirts available are themed after Ryuu Ga Gotoku 3 (Yakuza 3), and 428: Fusasareta Shibuya de (428: In a Blockaded Shibuya).  I think it’s been confirmed that we won’t be getting either game in the West but that doesn’t mean you can’t don the shirt proudly.  Maybe a gang of us in Yakuza 3 shirts can beat up some Sega execs and intimidate them into localizing it anyway?  I call being the sadistic guy with the gigantic pompadour.

Trinity Universe Promotional Video

source

The first promotional video for Trinity Universe was released on the game’s main site not long ago.  It gives us a first look at a few of the game’s key features.  What you may notice almost immediately is that the 2D dialog art is much more animated than you’re used to: Etna’s wings slowly bob, characters’ chests move as though breathing, etc.

As I mentioned in my initial post on the game, this feature is known as the AAA (Active Animation Adventure) system.  When I first read about it I had a hard time imagining AAA, but I must say it’s kinda cool, albeit a tad creepy.  It does create an illusion of something between the 2nd and 3rd dimensions.  If you want a better look you can click on the source link for a larger version.

The video also shows some dungeon and battle action which was pretty exciting.  I was hoping for a little more, but what I saw looks awesome.  I am still reeling from seeing these characters in 3D and decently rendered at that.

A new feature the video mentions is the mana-graphic option.  This allows you to decorate your weapons with images found either in treasure chests, from beating enemies, or occasionally in shops.  When attacking with a weapon that has a mana-graphic equipped, it will have an associated effect.  Note in the video when Kanata is attacking and sakura blossoms go everywhere, that would be the effect for whatever graphic he is using. There are other bonuses associated with certain graphics which will grant a stat boost, new ability, or other attributes like element affinity etc.

Weapons are one of my favorite parts of RPGs, so I am excited to see that Trinity Universe is paying so much attention to them!  I know this is a feature I will get pretty into.  I wonder if you can mix graphic effects kinda like with poké-ball effects in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl?  I guess I’ll just have to wait and see.

Square Enix Launches Teaser Site

COUNTDOWN

Bravo, Square Enix — it takes a helluva teaser site to stump me, but I do love a challenge.  This teaser site popped up not long ago with basically no clues to us groveling masses.  I find it curious that the countdown symbol for days is in roman numerals… could there be a significance to this?

Currently, there are two overriding opinions I have seen on Japanese websites that seem pretty likely.  One is very boring, the other is kinda interesting.  I’ll start with the boring one:

Yaruo of My Game News Flash had an anonymous commenter who produced some pretty damning evidence that the teaser site is for Lord Of VermillionLOV is a bizarre card-based arcade game which is somewhat popular in Japan.  The word “arcade” should have made it obvious to you that you’ll probably never play Lord of Vermilion.  If this is what the teaser site is for, I will cry, unless the game is going to leave the arcade and head onto a console — that may be interesting, but highly unlikely.

The more exciting but less plausible possibility concerns a recent patent Square Enix took out for the name “Geomancer”.  The patent was taken out July 24th, which leads me to believe that it may be a bit early for any teaser stuff.  Still, the countdown page does have an olde-timey feel to it which resonates with geomancy and all that.

I will check out the site on August 7th to see what all these shenanigans are about.

A Witch’s Tale: Website Goes Live

Loue

Today NIS America launched the main website for their upcoming Halloween-y Nintendo DS title, A Witch’s Tale.  I immediately wanted to check it out since there hasn’t been much official word regarding the game in a while.

When it comes to the characters, as far as I can tell the names haven’t been changed at all as with Cross Edge.  No, I am not bitter, why do you ask?  The only thing I will mention to prevent confusion is that the supporting-hero, who I had translated as Ruu, is in fact named Loue; a very unique spelling…  I was kinda hoping that they would have added Kurone (see bottom middle thumbnail) but maybe it’s too early for that.

Other than that, there is a brief promo movie which basically sums up all the content on the site, so if you don’t feel like clicking around a whole bunch… there you go.

As you may have guessed, the site is very similar to the Japanese site, so if you wanna get a sneak peak I would suggest taking a look.  Currently there is no official release date set; the site says “Fall 2009″ and Amazon lists it as October 6th –  I suppose both could be correct.  To celebrate the launch of the site, here is a collection of random media on the game:

OMG Toys: Two New Odin Sphere Figures On The Horizon

Velvet

First up is this incredibly beautiful figure of Velvet. She was originally a garage kit crafted by legendary figure sculptor Bubba! and was presented way back in 2007 at Hobby Complex 07. Figure producer Yamato announced earlier this week that they picked up Bubba!’s sculpt and will be mass producing it. Yamato is also the company who will be producing the equally as gorgeous Mercedes figure, who is also from Odin Sphere. This figure also features a castoff skirt revealing a sexy pair of see-through panties.

When Odin Sphere was first announced by Vanillaware, it was Velvet’s incredibly sexy pose that originally got me interested in the game (as shameful as that sounds.) To see that same dynamic pose being immortalized into a PVC statue has made this particular piece a must-buy for me. She’s expected for a December 2009 release date with a 9,800 yen price tag. If the price seems a bit steep, it’s because this figure will be approximately 10 inches tall, giving her a good 2 inches over a regular 1/8 scale model. Needless to say, as soon as pre-orders open up for her, I’ll be the first in line.

Alice

Next up is this Alice figure. Now, I don’t want to upset all of you, but for now, this figure is only offered as an unpainted, un-assembled garage kit that can be bought at this years Wonder Fest 2009 for 5,800 yen. But don’t fret! All the wonderful Odin Sphere figures that have been – and will be – released all started out as garage kits. So it is very possible that this figure will be picked up for mass production. Quite possibly by either Alter, who handled the Gwendolyn figure, or Yamato who is handling both the Velvet and Mercedes figures mentioned above.

It would just be an utter shame not to put a custom figure of this quality into production for the fans of Odin Sphere. It’s also a fact that we just don’t see enough gothic lolita figures on the market. As a fan of the design, it’s a shame that there are currently no figures sporting that aesthetic in my collection. If this figure does happen to push its way into mass production, I’m hoping that Socrates will be castoffable. I’d still display him next to Alice, but I think the figure would look better without him on her lap. Maybe he can be interchanged with the book she reads the stories from? That’s an accessory I would definitely like to see packaged with this figure.

Sure, we’ve had to wait quite a while after Odin Sphere’s initial release to start seeing some quality figures of the characters, but at least we’re getting some! Hopefully this isn’t a trend for Vanillaware titles, as I would hate to wait a long time for Muramasa figures to start showing up on the scene.
