There has been a change to the way the player interacts with the world of Persona 3 in Persona 3 Portable. Rather than having a full character sprite, it seems the player will control an orb – blue for the male or pink for the female – which represents the player’s location on the map. The above screen shows the male protagonist about to speak with Koromaru.
The map is displayed as a static overhead view with icons for respective trigger locations. For example, the save spot is represented with an “S,” the TV a “!” and each character a little attention icon.
To be honest, I was a little disappointed when I first saw this since I was picturing a literal port of Persona 3. I guess since 2 versions of the game need to be squeezed onto an UMD they had to cut back somewhere. What are your thoughts on the new appearance? To get a better idea of player interactions, you may want to watch these two short videos of actual game-play on the PSP Go:

I could almost make out the name of Elizabro! I can tell the name is two characters long, so it’s probably two syllables. It’s possible that this is not the finished product and they may have just slapped anything in there.

Where will you go?
As you may have guessed, this screen-shot shows the female protagonist utilizing the warp option from her homeroom. I am again really happy this feature is in place and this is our first look at it. That’s a lot of pink, huh…
Thanks to recent commenter Ravvie for bringing these videos to my attention. Ravvie also mentioned that the music is not the same as it was in the original or in FES, meaning we can probably expect a new or altered soundtrack. I don’t doubt it will be an awesome, amazing soundtrack, that will be stuck in my head all damn day. Curse you, Shoji Meguro!
I hope no one minds the attention I am giving this game, it holds a special place in my heart since the first post I made on Kotowari was concerning Persona 3: FES. Don’t read it though, OK?
