Pokéwalker Unveiled – Causes Pokénostalgia

Pokéwalker

This may be slowpoke, but I really don’t care, I just need to express my excitement. OMG you guys, seriously, OMG. I don’t know if anyone else out there had a Pocket Pikachu when they were a kid, but I was pretty fucking obsessed with mine. I had the regular one and then when that died I actually got the Pocket Pikachu 2 which was in color – you read right: fucking color.

Anyway, Nintendo and Pokémon have announced that their newest duo of games, Pokémon Heart Gold and Soul Silver will be bundled with the Pokéwalker (pictured top).  It allows for the player to load a single pokémon into it.  As its name suggests, the Pokéwalker is still basically a pedometer.

Walking around with your pokémon increases its affection for you and also generates EXP.  As with the Pocket Pikachus, a certain number of steps will earn you “Watts.”  Watts can then be used to catch wild pokémon with the Pokéradar, or find hidden items with the dowsing machine.  Pokémon and items obtained in this method can then be transferred from the Pokéwalker to your main game via infrared communication:

zzzzzzooooommmm

There are still obviously some unknowns with this feature: Is it really only in black and white as the picture shows? Is this feature related to the fact that certain pokémon can follow you around in game?  Are there limitations to what pokémon you can load into the Pokéwalker?  Will it work with other titles?  Will it be sold individually?  I can pretty much keep going, but I think you get the idea.

I can already picture myself at work with this attached to my sock, violently shaking my leg, hoping my coworkers don’t notice the slight rattling sound.  Man, I am excited.
