Resident Evil 5 Review
Nutgarden05 and I purchased and completed Capcom’s Resident Evil 5; I would say we were both left with mixed feelings. Where I am new to the series and experiencing it for the first time, NG5 is a hardened veteran giving you both sides of the coin.
Ultimately my main issue was the utter lack of a story. I had expected much more after being briefed on the glory of the past games by NG5. What I found with this game was a haphazardly arranged tale of attempted bio-terrorism. Included with this was a stereotypical story of a cop who lost his partner, afraid to get close to a new partner blahblahblah. How many episodes of NYPD Blue did you watch to come up with that gem, Capcom?
I can’t say I blame Capcom for trying to take advantage of a niche that is going strong, but my understanding was that Resident Evil was the first successful series of its genre: horror/survival. I guess I expected that continued trailblazing… but yeah… no.
The game wasn’t all bad though. I really appreciated the graphics, and I can say without a doubt that I enjoyed playing Mercenaries mode with Nutgarden05. After beating the game, my desire to play through again quickly diminished once I got infinite ammo and some other crazy bonuses. Since now the only pleasure I get from the game is in Mercenaries mode, I just sold my copy and play the game at NG5’s house.
