Platnum

Yesterday Serebii.net posted this image of what is believed to be an advertisement for Pokémon Platinum (ポケットモンスター プラチナ) for the Nintendo DS. Please be aware that this is still just a rumor, of which I can neither confirm nor deny at this point.

Generally Game Freaks does release a third installment to each pair of Pokémon games:

  • Pokémon Red and Blue are accompanied by Pokémon Yellow
  • Pokémon Gold and Silver are accompanied by Pokémon Crystal
  • Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire are accompanied by Pokémon Emerald
  • Pokémon Diamond and Pearl are still unaccompanied

These editions usually feature some minor advancement in the game as well as different Pokémon, enemies, and character designs. Serebii.net believes (based on this scan) the following to be evident:

This single page scan shows Pokémon Platinum (confirmed as the name, although technically the Katakana says Platina, but that is generally the term the Japanese use for Platinum), Giratina in its Origin Form as well as what seems to be a new battle interface and potentially a new costume for the main character in Platinum as we see by the Blue top on Lucas in the battle screen. We’re awaiting other scans as well, hopefully to confirm this data as well as the other data we revealed yesterday, when the scans come in bigger size and quality. Here’s the current scan for you to look at, however it is not be 100% confirmed yet

Again I wish to stress the fact that neither I, nor Serebii.net claim to pass this off as the truth until more information is available.

Giratina For those who don’t know, Giratina is a Ghost/Dragon type Pokémon, little is known about it other than it’s Pokédex entry: ”A Pokémon that is said to live in a world on the reverse side of ours. It appears in an ancient cemetery.” The dark image in the center of the photo does appear to be a living Dragon similar in appearance to Giratina. Perhaps this yet unknown Pokémon is the mascot for the Platinum version… or it could just be Giratina.

On a personal note, I am excited to learn the truth behind this scan, which should come out any day now. I really didn’t like the male character’s appearance much in Diamond and Pearl, so I would (hopefully) like a change. Also, I wouldn’t mind playing through the game again, but I just can’t delete my Diamond file!

Just to fill you in, that’s actually Giratina’s “Origin” form which is seen in the latest movie starring Giratina (in that form), Regigias and Shaymin. All of which get second forms in Platinum.

And the trainer design refresh probably isn’t limited to just the male, as Sugimori has an established precedent where he does both.

      Still, I’m liking the change.

Um, only Giratina is getting a second form. I dunno what you’ve been reading…
