DISCLAIMER

The following are conclusions I have reached after spending much too much time with the Persona 4 PV DVD included with this weeks Famitsu magazine. I do not intend for any of this to be taken as absolute fact since no one can either confirm nor deny my predictions. With that said, read on:

Murders

Corpse
Detective Work

You may not notice it right away, but there is a dead body wrapped in the power lines in the first screen shot. It can be assumed that the individual fell victim to the murderer who strikes when the weather grows foggy.
There may be a connection between the urban legend of Mayonaka TV, and the fact that the murders occur when it is cloudy. Perhaps the murderer also uses Mayonaka TV as an avenue to reach his next victim. The protagonists uncle, Ryoutarou, is a detective in Inabashi.
Since Inabashi is a rural town, it makes sense that Ryoutarou would work on the case of the bizarre murders occurring in town. This may be how the protagonist and his friends learn about the murderers pattern and attempt to stop him.
Weapons
Daidara Weapons
Oyaji-smith
There are a few scenes in the video featuring the NPC the player buys weapons from. His bright red hair and strange features lead me to believe he is supposed to look like a foreigner. Like most weapons dealers in Persona games, I am sure he has a background story. The options at the first screenshot are as follows:

  • Buy Weapons
  • Buy Armor
  • Buy Accessories
  • Sell
  • Talk
  • Leave

I was hoping the weapon smithing option would be available in Persona 4. I know they are adding it into Persona 3 FES, so it may show up, but with a different NPC perhaps.

Another Character A Matsuri with new character
Who is this…
It appears there may be a third female character who joins the party. At this point absolutely nothing is known about her. It would seem she joins the party late into the game since she is only shown a few times. In the first screenshot she is on Yukiko’s right in a pink kimono. These are the only two times she is shown in the video.

Again I do not attempt to pass any of my theories off as truth. I simply offer them to stir up discussion and encourage the exchange of ideas between fans of the series. If anyone agrees or disagrees, feel free to leave a comment.

I’m pretty sure they said weapon fusions were coming back, and I think I saw it on the Velvet Room’s menu in a screen shot.

Nice, thanks for the tip flying. If you happen to check back, and have that screen shot handy could you send it my way? I am very excited for weapon fusing, since just buying them or finding them leaves something to be desired. I would much rather graft a demon to a weapon. Thanks for the comment!

Check out the picture of the Velvet Room interface. There is an icon that isn’t there in Persona 3, looking like a non-symmetric starburst around something. I haven’t played FES yet, so I don’t know where weapon fusions were done.

All of the lists I’ve seen that summarize the known information of the game say
-Weapon creation system from FES returns.
-Easy, Normal, and Hard modes selectable from the beginning.

Oh, and if you look at the screenshots closer, it appears that Yousokue is talking to the MC when Magician S.Link ranks up, meaning your male party members are their respective S.Links this time.

Nice detective work flying, I will try and take a closer look at these to see if I can verify anything. Thanks for bringing this to my attention.

Hello, just want to confirm some of the theories, since I’ve played the (japanese) version of the game for some time myself.

Of course this contains heavy spoilers, feel free to edit/delete it.

About weapon smithing, the real thing is that you don’t just buy weapons, but you have to smith them; meaning you have to gather the indregients first from the dungeons, sell a certain number of them to the smith, and buy the results from him.

The girl with pigtails is Kujikawa Rise. She will be your support character replacing Kuma (just like Fuuka replacing Mitsuru).

I’ve read some of your theories, and most of them are correct; the glasses are used to see the inside dungeon and the shadows; and the purpose of fighting shadows before gaining the personae is because [SPOILER]
As stated in P3 FES, Personae are actually tamed shadows; that’s why you have to fight them first and admit that the’another self’ is yourself and they will become your personae.
