Street Fighter 4 Review

NutGarden05 has been playing Street Fighter 4 pretty religiously since its release, sizing himself up against friends, strangers and fellow BestBuy employees.  The game has become quite the worldwide phenomena, stirring up nostalgia in those who remember when games came in cartridges.

I was a big fan of Street Fighter 2 back when I was like 10.  I remember renting it on repeat from Blockbuster and facing off against the CPU over and over.  I never reached the level of obsession that it seems so many others did generations ago and the series kind of disappeared from my radar.

When it comes to fighting games, I became a Tekken player in high school and have been since.  It’s just what my friends got me into and I am now loyal to the series.  I appreciate the game’s character designs, story and humor which most fighters tend to sadly lack.

That doesn’t mean I don’t have respect for Street Fighter. Capcom definitely knows what its consumers want.  When it comes to Street Fighter 4, it was all about making it feel like a modern title, while keeping it safely (for lack of a better term) old-school.  Fans of the series seem to approve of the result, and I think my reaction to the game is positive…

EXCEPT for when it comes to the animated cut-scenes which me and NG5 mention in the video.  They are just fucking godawful.  I don’t know who would ever think that they have a place in a game which feels otherwise very polished.  It feels like they were an afterthought shoved late in the game’s development.

Also, I never realized this before, but every character in the game is an enormous stereotype of their relative country – not sure how I feel about that.  That was definitely over my head when I was 10.

We made this video a bit longer than the norm to test our viewer’s attention spans.  If it is received as favorably (or more so) than the shorter videos, we will try and keep them longer.  Also there is a special guest in the outtakes.  Hope you enjoy!
