So I posted a while back about how awesome the Metal Gear Solid 4 Bundle was going to be. Since the game’s release is getting closer, Konami has officially announced the contents of the bundle.
Now rather than the package coming with an 80GB PS3, it will be coming with a 40GB PS3, which features a lack of backwards compatibility. Sign me up! But wait–there’s more! the rumored price tag of $499.99 has been slashed to a robust $599.99.
So again let us break down the contents to decide if this is a good deal:
| Product | Retail Price | Bundle Price |
| Metal Gear Solid 4 Limited Edition | $84.99 | $100.00 |
| Dual Shock III Controller | $54.99 | $100.00 |
| 40 GB Playstation 3 | $399.99 | $399.99 |
| Total Price | $539.97 | $599.99 |
So what about this bundle gives you an extra $60.02 incentive? I have no idea, all I know is I won’t be purchasing it come June 12th.
*NOTE* Purchasing the package in individual parts will get you an extra Sixaxis controller. Also, Gamestops do NOT take reservations on the MGS4 Bundle, but they DO take them on the Limited Edition version of the game.

As I plan to begin my ascent into the next generation, I am starting to scope out accessories that I will probably need to purchase. I am tight on money, so I am trying to only get necessities, and only if they are cheap. Luckily, the Playstation 3 Memory card adapter is both.
Ideally, I would like to compile my video game hardware by eliminating my untrustworthy Playstation 2. I have been battling with the “Disc-Read Error” for about a year now. I went so far as to crack the thing open and adjust the laser lens, which has since worked for most games, but not all. Having one piece of hardware which is 100% reliable would be a dream come true.
Since the PS3 has no memory card slots, this cable is the only way to get already acquired PS2 data onto the PS3, thus allowing me to eliminate my PS2. I have some files with an embarrassingly high number of hours socked away. (Disgaea 1 and 2 combined is close to 500 hours–I know it’s sad, but thats how I roll. I certainly cannot proceed to the next-gen without my level 9999 thief right?)
Previously, this cable only allowed for one-way transfers, i.e. data from a PS2 memory card to a PS3 hard drive. Luckily Sony has since patched this problem to allow for 2 way transfers. This is especially helpful since the PS3 (80GB) is still not 100% backwards compatible. Imagine uploading your save files only to find the PS3 won’t play the game, and there is no way to get it back only your PS2? I would surely break into a midget slaughtering fit of rage.
As I said earlier, the cable is cheap, about half the price of a PS2 memory card. You can order it from Amazon.com for the affordable price of $12.99.

We all know it’s coming out, but is it a good deal? In my opinion hell yes, but opinions don’t mean much without some logic behind them. First let us break the contents of the bundle down into easy to understand parts:
- Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots
- Quite possibly the most exciting game to be released on the PS3 (exclusivly) since it has arrived on the market.
- Retail value = $59.99
- Wireless Dual Shock III Controller (dark green)
- Features the vibration feature of the old dual shock controller and the motion sensing capabilities of the sixaxis
- You can play MGS4 right away, the way it was meant to be played.
- Retail value = $54.99
- 80 GB Playstation III (dark green)
- The 80 GB version is the only version in production which still features backwards compatibility with PS2, and PS1 games. The system is not flawless, but Sony is releasing patches with a desired goal of 100% backwards compatability.
- Numbers make things easy to understand. The 80 GB has the most memory (duh), and 4 USB ports instead of 2 with the 40 GB. Rock Band much?
- Retail value = $500-600.00
| Product | Retail Price | Bundle Price |
| Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots | $59.99 | $0.00 |
| Dual Shock III controller (dark green) | $54.99 | $0.00 |
| 80 GB Playstation 3 | $500.00 | $499.99 |
| Total price | $614.98 | $499.99 |
Both the bundle and the game will be released worldwide on June 12th. I highly recommended reserving the bundle to be on the safe side. If you have not yet purchased a PS3 because you are “waiting for the right time”, I daresay this is it.
You can pre-order the system from Amazon.com here.

It looks like Sony is ready to roll out new software for the Sony PSP to work with free Internet calling program Skype:
Special microphones for PSP’s Skype feature will go on sale in Japan on March 19 at 2,500 yen (US$24) each and 4,000 yen (US$39) for two, and software will be upgraded a day earlier.
Not sure why there was such a delay considering the Skype feature has been available to the West since January, but this might prove a good sales boost for both companies. Skype is the MVP when it comes to calling internationally for free, and has helped me connect with my family back in America without much trouble. I do have some problems with lag depending on the Internet speed, which might prove crucial to those connecting their PSPs to it (and essentially to other users.) Thoughts?

I saw this in Umeda yesterday, and I have to admit I had a sudden urge to take my first-gen clunky white PSP and give it to the next homeless person I see. A mint green PSP? Can you find a color that’s any more relaxing? A little more poking around and I found this Deep Red version that seemed to escape my attention when it came out. Hard to tell whether these colors will make it to America, which seems to avoid consoles with colors outside of the gray spectrum.
