I didn’t get to go to Persona Music Live 2008 or 2009 and I sadly am guessing you didn’t either. That doesn’t mean we can’t do our best to live vicariously through those that did, right? Luckily for us Aniplex finally got around to releasing a DVD of the PML event held in Akasaka back in 2008. There are two different versions, one standard and one limited (see below).
It should be noted that these DVDs are both region 2, meaning they most likely won’t work in a standard American player. Europeans fans are in luck, since they fall into the same region. There are ways to bypass this — I personally leave my laptop on region 2 just for this very reason. Most personal laptops allow for the region flag to be changed a set number of times.
The limited edition version’s bonus CD only has four tracks, but the price difference is pretty minor. You can check out some images of the content for that version here via Akiba total research (?????).

So, I recently picked up BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger. Maybe you heard of it? The beautiful 2D arcade fighter that has fighting game fans going crazy over it since it was released for the PS3/360 (or earlier if you were lucky enough to live near an arcade that had a BB machine)? Well, you know what the best part of that game is? It’s the music, which was composed by none other than the great Daisuke Ishiwatari, creator of the acclaimed Guilty Gear series of fighters. His usual blend of heavily symphonic orchestras mixed with blaring guitar riffs is very much present in this OST. It’s a style you will come to expect of Daisuke once you get to know his work, but it never gets old. It’s a redeeming quality of his talent that has kept me so enamored with his music for many years.
Thankfully, Aksys Games packaged all first-run copies of BlazBlue with a 2-Disc OST (along with a bonus DVD and a fancy doubled-width box to store it all in). Also, Aksys did something wonderful and put on six additional tracks featuring remixes by none other than Oh No. If you don’t know who Oh No is, than you don’t know what music is. The acclaimed hip-hop producer (though labeling him as just that is a major understatement to his talent) is the younger brother of Madlib, who himself is an acclaimed music producer. He is also a known gamer who often incorporates video game sounds into his music, so this type of project is perfect for him. I would have paid money just to have this OST with only the six remix tracks by him on it.
Even if you don’t pick up BlazBlue, passing up on the OST would be a big mistake, which is why I included download links for both discs of the Calamity Trigger Limited Edition OST at the bottom of the post. Enjoy!

Persona for PSP was released late last month in Japan. I have really been digging what I heard from the new soundtrack by Shoji Meguro, so I decided to see if I could find it for download — after all, things move quickly in the Internet, whether through legal channels or not. After a bit of digging, I found it and thought I would share with you guys. I also included a Megaupload mirror just in case…

I like how this soundtrack is a little more upbeat than the original while still maintaining an air of gravity. Also, I know I mentioned it before, but I always welcome Yumi Kawamura’s singing. I was surprised how many tracks are on this soundtrack, but Japan seems to be all about all-inclusive, often 2-disc soundtracks.
Still waiting for some news on the U.S. release of Persona for PSP. Most likely, Atlus is waiting until E3 to slap that new-born walrus’s ass. Anyway, I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I did!

Persona PSP: Preemptive Strike
Atlus has officially announced that Persona for PSP will be released in America, and no leaks this time! To celebrate I have compiled some media on the game. Here is one of the first revamped videos, which takes place shortly after the gang attempt to play the infamous children’s game “persona.” A mysterious transparent girl appears who asks for help. Suddenly electricity shoots through the room, hitting Yukino and later Kei. The quality is really nice though it’s a bit strange seeing somewhat dated character designs in such modern rendering.

“All the Personas started here.”
I have noticed that people really, really like wallpapers and I am all about giving the people what they want. The Japanese site for Persona has been updating pretty rapidly, building hype and all that. They now have a set of wallpapers (seen above) which are pretty cool. You can download them here:
1024×768
1280×1024
1900×1200
480×270 (PSP)
This is my current wallpaper at work, which I guess is silly since the game won’t be coming out in the states on April 29th. In fact, the recent e-mail regarding the game’s localization makes no mention of a date. The wallpaper looks really ugly with Windows, but I highly recommend it for Mac owners.
In addition to the wallpapers, 2 tracks from the game’s new soundtrack have been added to the Japanese website. For your convenience I have surgically attached them to this post:

I remember very little from Revelations: Persona’s original soundtrack, but these songs seem to fit in well with the sounds of the last few Persona titles, while still remaining unique. It looks like the site will be adding more tracks down the line, so if you’re interested you may wanna bookmark this.
I am truly excited at getting to play Persona in its true untampered form. This is a momentous occasion for MegaTen fans.

Fragile has been out for just over a week now in Japan. I haven’t been able to find the complete OST yet, but I was able to find the opening and closing songs on rpgmm’s garden. I am so glad to finally be able to slap these damn songs on my iPod! I used to just rewatch the trailers over and over and dream… Anyway all credit goes to rpgmm, but I hope you guys enjoy these songs as much as I do!
Sometimes the bandwidth for rpgmm isn’t great, so I uploaded the rar to megaupload. The mirror is the original link.
