Pokemon Platinum has been released in Japan, which means a flood of illegal rips of the game have swept the internet.  Before you get excited, please understand that the game is in Japanese only.  There is no English version available for download. 

For this reason I don’t believe I will be taking any food out of the mouths of Nintendo employees by providing links to the game and an emulator that works with it.  I’ll also provide a brief description of how to get the game up and running.

Here are the links to the game and emulator:

• Pokemon Platinum(J).nds credits to http://nds.hkorz.com
• No$GBA_2.6a credits to http://www.nogba.com

Once you have downloaded and extracted both, do the following:

1. Double-click on the No$GBA.EXE
2. Locate and select the Pokemon Platinum(J).nds ROM

You can alter any settings if you would like, this is just enough to get you started.  I would recommend customizing the button arrangement by going to Options> Control Setup

Here is some elementary Japanese you may need to know:

もどる = Back or Delete
おわり = Done or End
はい = Yes or Correct
いいえ = No or Cancel

I haven’t played much because I wanted to get this post up.  I reluctantly selected the male as my character… Something about his outfit just really rubs me the wrong way.  I named my rival Jesus, aren’t I clever?

For those of you reading this at work, this is a great way to kill some time!  If anyone has any other questions about getting the game working, or needs some help with Japanese let me know in the comments section.

I’ll begin by pointing out that this version is in no way officially released or licensed by Nintendo or Game Freaks. Pokémon Orange Islands or Naranja as it is also called was made by a hacker named Serg!o who lives in Madrid Spain. The game follows the story of the cartoon series in which the main character is Ash, although the player can also choose to play as Misty. The story takes place after Ash has defeated the Elite Four in Kanto, and is on a journey to the Orange Islands to acquire the mysterious GS ball and deliver it to Professor Oak.

While the game is unofficial, it has been generating a lot of press in the online Poké-communities. If you are interested in downloading the ROM you can find it here. It is available in both English or Spanish. The English version is still not perfect, as the video will show you there are frequent errors in grammar. That still doesn’t stop Pokémon Naranja from being an enjoyable title.

The Game is considered to be more difficult that the official titles and features more 2 vs. 2 battles.

It’s hard to believe that there are people out there creating their own Pokémon titles. Not to mention putting them onto actual cartridges to play in their Game Boy Advance systems.

That determined looking Pokémon on the right is Shaymin’s new form called it’s Sky Form. It’s element type is revealed to be grass and flying–an interesting combination. In addition to Shaymin, both protagonists new look’s have been revealed:

As before, the female’s outfit is pretty awesome, and as before the male’s outfit falls painfully short. He kind of looks like a futuristic French wine taster. In fact…

Right, enough fooling around. The scan goes on to announce that in celebration of the upcoming Pokémon movie, Japanese players will be able to acquire the rare Shaymin on their Diamond and Pearl games via the wireless club. The scan doesn’t specify how, it just suggests that players check the films official website. Here’s hoping American fans get the same treatment.

Well it is without a doubt official, Pokémon Platinum will be released in Japan in the fall of this year. You can check out the game’s official website here. Still no word on when an English release will occur. I will be checking the site for updates.

This is a higher quality image of the scan which has created the buzz around the possible announcement of Pokémon Platinum. After being able to see it up close, I have to agree it does seem like Pokémon Platinum will be officially announced soon (within the month). According to the scan, the game will be released in the fall.

The quote on the right-hand side reads: “Platinum is opening the door to a new adventure!”. There is more text above Giratina’s head which says “Giratina: Original form”.

While I am excited to get a better scan, it doesn’t seem like the male protagonist has gotten much of a style upgrade. According to the scan, it looks like he’s just getting some color moderations. Oh well, I guess we’ll have to put up with that damn berét for one more game.
