Today Famitsu magazine revealed the first look at Crossedge (クロスエッジ), an RPG to be released in September 2008 for the PS3. The game features many cameos by characters from other titles, but does contain a unique story and main set of characters.
Crossedge is a product of several video game companies combined efforts: Gust, Nippon Ichi Software, Bandai-Namco, Capcom, and Idea Factory.
Here is a list of confirmed characters making an appearance:
- Etna from Makai Senki Disgaea
- Morrigan, Felicia, and Demitri from Darkstalkers
- Misha, Shurelia, and Aurica from Ar Tonelico
- Meu from Spectral Souls
- Rozelux, Liliane, and Marie from Mana Khemia 2
Here are the game’s main characters:
| Name: Kannagi Yuto Kanji: 神薙 勇刀 Apparent Weapon: Gun |
Name: Aiba Mikoto Kanji: 相羽 命 |
The main characters wake up after suddenly being sucked into a different world. This world can only survive by feeding off of the souls of other dimensions. It does this by literally sucking souls out of other worlds, and into itself. This is the story behind all the cameos.
The parasite dimension has two worlds: an underworld and an illusion world. The underworld is where characters like Etna and Morrigan reside. The illusion world is where just about all the others are.
According to some battle scenes, it appears that these character from other games will fight alongside the main characters:
Battles appear on a 2D field, and each character has a skill assigned to a certain button of the PS3 controller (△、O、□、X). There is a set amount of AP each character has, and performing actions depletes it. Performing combo attacks increases damage, thus making it a better usage of AP
Another cool feature of the game is Form Change. When the player succeeds in releasing a soul back to its world, he/she may be rewarded with a new Form. A form is basically an armor that a character can wear that raises stats but also changes the characters outfit:

I am sure just about everyone saw 2D and got a little pissed. I know this game is for the PS3, and people expect more out of games for such an expensive system. Especially with juggernauts like Metal Gear Solid 4 showing the range of the console’s true potential. Still, I believe Crossedge will have a lot to offer without shattering any graphical barriers. I am confident that with so much talent behind the game, it will become a must-have for fans of the collaborating companies.
